Character Concept: Smaugdar the Creditor

Smaugdar, the Creditor

Smaugdar is an ancient red dragon who once reveled in pillaging kingdoms, hoarding gold, and bathing in the fear of mortals. But as the centuries rolled by, Smaugdar discovered that his endless raids were exhausting—and frankly, inefficient. Why torch villages when you can make the gold come to you? Now, Smaugdar has rebranded himself as a "financial entrepreneur," offering high-interest loans to desperate adventurers, merchants, and even kings.

Key Personality Traits

Charming Manipulator: Smaugdar is eloquent and cunning, capable of smooth-talking mortals into deals that seem fair but are impossible to repay.

Terrifying Enforcer: When debts go unpaid, Smaugdar’s "collections policy" is simple—he eats the debtor or someone they care about, making an example of them.

Prideful Collector: Every coin, trinket, and artifact Smaugdar acquires is a testament to his superiority. His hoard is meticulously organized, with detailed records of every debt.

Unique Abilities

Infernal Contracts: Smaugdar magically enforces his loan agreements. If someone tries to renege, they suffer severe consequences, like curses or forced servitude.

Aura of Intimidation
: His mere presence strikes fear into the hearts of debtors, making it nearly impossible to resist his demands.

Economical Mind: Smaugdar has a network of informants and mercenaries, ensuring he knows exactly who owes him and where to find them.

Plot Hooks

The Debt Trap: A party member (or an NPC ally) has taken out a loan from Smaugdar. Now the party must either repay the debt or face his wrath.

Stealing from the Hoard: A daring heist to recover stolen or extorted gold could pit the adventurers against Smaugdar’s intricate lair and his ferocious might.

The Dragon's Downfall: Smaugdar’s greed has made him enemies, from rival dragons to organized crime syndicates. The party is hired to take him down—but can they survive his firepower and schemes?

Negotiating with the Beast: The party must strike a deal with Smaugdar for an essential loan or item, knowing full well the cost may be too high.

Roleplaying Smaugdar

Voice and Mannerisms: Give him a deep, rumbling voice, but with a slick, business-like tone. Sprinkle in financial jargon: "Your interest compounds daily, of course."

Humor: Play up the absurdity of a dragon obsessed with wealth management. "You thought I’d forget about your payment? I’m 10,000 years old, not an idiot."

Flaws: Smaugdar’s arrogance can blind him to creative solutions or trickery. He’s so convinced of his superiority that he might underestimate the party.
